Plus: You’re not even ready for this month’s treasure trove of special release awesomeness.

If you’re a fan of sour, funky, spontaneously-fermented, barrel-aged, and generally boss adult beverages, May is your lucky month, friends. Modern Times has been hard at work putting together this year’s Festival of Funk, and you’re conveniently poised to reap all the delicious rewards of all that hard work.

This year’s celebration of internationally-renowned funk-sorcery will be taking place at San Diego’s beautiful Liberty Station, with an even more spacious and deeply chill layout than years prior, and an incredibly stacked list of guest breweries, which you can check out below. Also new this year will be the addition of a bunch of truly stellar natural wines, which they’re incredibly psyched to be adding to the mix. More info on that coming soon.

In addition to the embarrassment of liquid riches that will be on display, there will be some seriously dope food trucks, a killer selection of meticulously curated funk tunes courtesy of the beloved DJ Peso, and a ridiculous amount of sexy merch.

Tickets are going on sale on Saturday, April 13th at 10AM. If you want in–especially if you want to snag a VIP ticket before they’re gone–we’d suggest being ready to get your tickets when the sale opens.

THIS MONTH’S SPECIAL RELEASE SALE IS SOOOO BOMB. Seriously, this lineup is pretty out of hand, even by our standards. They’ve got a glorious bounty of haze, funk, and barrel-aged dessert magic going up for grabs on Saturday, April 6th, and we’re pretty frickin’ excited about it. They’ll detail all of these liquid miracles more fully next week, but here’s a quick preview of what will be on offer:

  • Stencil Crew (8.5% hazy DIPA w/ Simcoe, Citra, and Amarillo hops)
  • Double Dry-Hopped MT5! (8.4 % double dry-hopped hazy DIPA w/ Nelson and Motueka)
  • Broken Shadows (7.2% hazy rye IPA w/ Strata, Crystal, Chinook, & Galaxy hops)
  • Abaddon (5.2% Helles lager w/ Perle & Hallertau Mittelfruh)
  • Sun Myth (6.1% red wine barrel-aged sour blond w/ peaches)
  • Modern Eden (7.3% white wine barrel-aged dry-hopped saison w/ pineapple–collab with Yeast of Eden)
  • Monsters’ Park Aged in Bourbon Barrels with Vanilla (12.9% imperial stout)
  • Monsters’ Park Aged in Bourbon Barrels: Mexican Hot Chocolate Edition(14.2% imperial stout)

Pretty intense. Quantities will, of course, be limited, so plan next Saturday morning’s shopping activities accordingly.

THE 4/20 TIE-DYE PARTIES ARE IMMINENT. If you’ve yet to secure your ticket to this technicolor voyage of psychedelic wonder, we would suggest doing so post-haste, as tickets are going fast. Tickets to either the San Diego or PDX parties are $25 and include a totally sweet Beer Jesus tee to tie-dye, plus all the necessary implements and dyes to create your wearable masterpiece. Oh, and a pint of something super tasty. Never tie-dyed anything before? It’s totally chill; they’ll have instructions and a full complement of extremely helpful, seasoned tie-dyers on hand to help out.

Modern Times will be throwing parties in SD, DTLA, and PDX, but SD and PDX will both require advance tickets! If you’ve never made it out for one of these in the past, we would ultra-recommend it. It’s one of our favorite yearly traditions, and we’d be super-psyched to share it with you.

Tickets are super limited, and can be acquired RIGHT HERE.

We have a constant stream of rad, beer-centric events going down all over the place. Should you need an excuse to do some elegant partying in the immediate future, you can check out the events page for your region of choice via the links below
